Matter in
Issue: Claim for workman’s compensation

The Applicant claims
for compensation for injuries which he sustained whilst in the
employment with the Respondent. The Respondent
were not present.

After having studied
the matter carefully, I do find that this is a matter which really
falls under the Workman’s Compensation Act.
That Act has set down
procedures to be followed by injured employees or their dependents. I
asked the Applicant as to whether he
has ever been at the Labour
Office to seek help in order to have his grievance redressed. He said
no.

I therefore order
that the Applicant be referred to the District Labour Office,
Lilongwe where he will receive the appropriate help
in order for his
assessment to be done and eventually payment by the former employer
who are the respondents. This ruling shall also
be forwarded to them
for their knowledge.
